Native American Resource Center

The goal of the Riverside-San Bernardino County Indian Health, Inc. Behavioral Health Services Native American Resource Center is to offer and expand new and existing programs and activities for American Indian/Alaskan Native participants who reside in the County of San Bernardino. The Native American Resource Center is committed to providing services that prevent family distress, alcohol and drug use and other related problems. This is achieved through education, prevention, and treatment activities for American Indian/Alaskan Native families in San Bernardino County.

The program is designed and intended to attract interest in traditional cultural activities, and highlight positive culturally-grounded activities which may prevent further serious behavioral, mental health and substance abuse conditions.

vmotschman2012Vernon Motschman, Native American Resource Center Coordinator

Vernon is an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation from Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota. He has been working with Riverside-San Bernardino County Indian Health, Inc. Behavioral Health Services Department since August 1994. His current job position is the coordinator for the Native American Resource Center, a Prevention and Early Intervention Program. He is a Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor with California Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors as well as being one of the youngest ever Native American certified alcohol and drug counselor with the Alcoholism Commission of California.

mmartinez2012Mary Martinez, LADC, Licensed Alcohol/Drug Counselor

Mary has worked at RSBCIHI, Native American Resource Center since February 15, 2011. She is from the Northern Arapaho Tribe, Wind River Reservation, Wyoming. She has worked in this field of alcohol/drug prevention and treatment for 20 years starting in residential treatment, day treatment programs and eventually an outpatient program. She enjoys working with the Native American Resource Center doing cultural-specific prevention activities with the women and families, going into the schools and colleges to disseminate program information as well as prevention education material.

ktsosie2012Kesti Tsosie, Secretary

Kesti is from the Navajo Nation in Arizona. She has been working with RSBCIHI, Native American Resource Center since December 2010. She was hired as the secretary for the Native American Resource Center. She also helps with cultural activities and teaches some of the youth craft classes. She enjoys going to pow wows, beading, and being creative.

JulieJulie Andrews, LCSW , Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Julie is an enrolled member of the Sicangu Band of the Lakota Nation. She has been working with Riverside San Bernardino County Indian Health, Inc. Behavioral Health Services Department since June 2006 and has been part of the Native American Resource Center since 2016. Julie is an alumni of University of California, Riverside and Loma Linda University. Her work includes the field of clinical mental health, prevention and early intervention, domestic violence advocacy, historical trauma and maternal mental health.
